Amazon’s new ‘AI ready’ initiative to train 2 mil people to learn about AI

Amazon is launching the "AI Ready" initiative, aiming to provide free AI skills training to 2 million people globally by 2025. This commitment addresses the growing demand for AI talent, with a recent AWS study showing that workers with AI skills can earn up to 47% more in salaries. The initiative includes three main components: eight new and free AI and generative AI courses, an AWS Generative AI Scholarship for over 50,000 high school and university students, and a collaboration with Code.org to educate students about generative AI.

The goal is to make AI education accessible and remove cost barriers, with a focus on both current and future generations in the workforce. The initiative also includes $12 million in generative AI scholarships and an Hour of Code Dance Party: AI Edition in collaboration with Amazon Future Engineer and Code.org, offering an accessible and enjoyable introduction to generative AI for students.

Meta disbanded its Responsible AI team

Meta (formerly Facebook) has reportedly disbanded its Responsible AI (RAI) team and redirected its resources towards generative artificial intelligence. According to an internal post cited by The Information, most RAI members will join the generative AI product team, while others will focus on Meta's AI infrastructure.

The move follows a prior restructuring that included layoffs, leaving RAI "a shell of a team." Despite the reshuffling, Meta claims it will continue prioritizing safe and responsible AI development, and the dispersed team members will still contribute to cross-Meta efforts in responsible AI. The restructuring coincides with global efforts to establish regulatory frameworks for AI development, with governments, including the US and the European Union, taking steps to address AI-related challenges and risks.
